TriChallenge Mamaia 2016 Results: 1500 total participants in the three races

On Saturday, September 10th, 2016, Mamaia resort hosted the TriChallenge international event, the biggest triathlon competition in Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Cheered on by thousands of spectators and aided by wonderful weather, the over 1,500 participants from more than 10 countries created one of the greatest sports shows ever to have taken place at the Romanian seaside.

The sports event, now at its 8th edition, was also a novel way of promoting Mamaia internationally, as the Romanian resort already holds a consecrated place on the international map of important sports competitions. Under the applause of the audience, the first person to cross the finish line at the end of the three stages (swim, cycle and run) of the toughest race (Olympic) was Zsombor Deak (2 hours, 4 minutes and 14 seconds), while Ştefania Ion won the same race for females – 2 hours, 27 minutes and 12 seconds.

The TriChallenge Mamaia 2016 was a particularly remarkable edition, especially as the swim stage took place in the Black Sea. The challenge continued with a 450m run, which took competitors along the walkway over Mamaia Boulevard and over to the transition area. This is where the cycling stage began – 10km for the super-sprint race, 20km for the sprint and 40km for the Olympic race. The race ended with a 2.5km, 5km, or 10km run respectively.
